EUROCITIES Genoa 2011: the city, the people
La ciudad italiana de Génova recogió el testigo de Zaragoza en noviembre de 2010, para ser la encargada de organizar la reunión anual de EUROCITIES, el evento más importante del año de esta red de ciudades europeas. Zaragoza puso en valor la identidad de las ciudades y su promoción al exterior, y Génova propone como tema central de este congreso (del 2 al 5 de noviembre) la "Planificación para las personas". Durante el mismo se analizará cómo las ciudades afrontan los retos de rediseño y regeneración urbana que plantean la cohesión social, la inmigración y otros fenómenos sociales en las capitales europeas hoy en día. La conferencia principal correrá a cargo del arquitecto genovés Renzo Piano, que impulsó en 2008 el Laboratorio Urbano de Génova para regenerar la zona histórica de la ciudad italiana y que analizará el enfoque actual en el desarrollo de las ciudades, centrado en los ciudadanos.
La Asamblea General de EUROCITIES presenta un completo programa durante 4 días que incluye entre otras actividades ponencias, paneles de debate, workshops, actos oficiales y la ceremonia de los Premios EUROCITIES 2011. En esta ocasión uno de los proyectos seleccionados como finalista en la categoría de "Participación", corresponde a Zaragoza y el programa "estonoesunsolar". El Jurado hará público el nombre del ganador el día 4 de noviembre de 2011 en la Ceremonia de Premios que tendrá lugar en el Acuario de Génova.
The Italian city of Genoa follows Zaragoza as responsible for organizing EUROCITIES 2011, the most important event of the year for this network of the major European cities. Last year Zaragoza focused on how cities' identities were linked to their promotion, and now in 2011 Genoa proposes "Planning for People" as the central topic of this event (2-5 November). During the meeting it will be analyzed how cities confront the challenge of redesign and regenerate urban spaces, bearing in mind social cohesion, immigration and other current social phenomena in the European capitals. This year's keynote speaker will be the renowned Genoese architecth and planner, Renzo Piano, who launched Genoa's Urban Lab in 2008 to revive the old quarter of the city; he will also analyze the current approach in the development of the cities focused on their citizens.
EUROCITIES Genoa 2011 annual conference includes a complete four-day program with many activities such as presentations, debates, workshops, official receptions and the EUROCITIES 2011 Awards Ceremony. This time one of the activities selected as finalist in the "Participation" category, belongs to Zaragoza with the "estonoesunsolar" ("thisisnotaplot") project. The Jury will announce the winner on 4th November during the Ceremony that will take place at Genoa's Aquarium.
